Who Are We

Adelaide Research Institute (ARI) is dedicated to the support of quality education through research, teaching, teacher education and curriculum design and delivery. ARI is organised for the investigation, documentation and publication of how language works in education as a resource for the expression and comprehension of meanings.

ARI offers inservice and professional development programs in specialist areas including curriculum, school leadership and applied research in education. The programs are inquiry-based informed by research evidence and involving action research and reflective practice. ARI provides advice for study programs for teachers, administrators and students.

Educational philosophy

The Adelaide Research Institute (ARI) is dedicated to studies in education. Researchers in the Institute recognise the functions of language in learning and in daily life, and they analyse natural language use as texts in studies informed by systemic functional linguistics.

Director

Peter Mickan

Peter Mickan is the Director of the Adelaide Research Institute and Visiting Research Fellow in the Faculty of Arts, University of Adelaide, South Australia, and Chief Curriculum Moderator for Adelaide International School. Dr Peter Mickan is an experienced languages educator. He has taught in schools and universities. He established the Postgraduate Applied Linguistics Program in the University of Adelaide, where he continues research and publishing in functional linguistics, language learning and teaching, and the revival of Barossa German. He supervises PhD students research on studies in higher education.

Lecturer

Irma Kuci

Irma Kuci is Lecturer in the Adelaide Research Institute and Coordinator and Lecturer for the Graduate Diploma TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). She is an experienced language educator, curriculum developer, assessor, and researcher. She has taught in schools and universities in Australia and overseas. She has expertise in TESOL, in teaching international students from diverse cultural backgrounds and in applied linguistics research.
